Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings

Dance, dance or we are lost....

What a weekend! I spent the two and a half days in Chicago helping one of my favorite couples revamp their new apartment. It’s amazing what you can accomplish with power shopping, non stop work, and a lot of love. Here is a sneak peak of the Kitschy Kitchen! Stay tuned for more to come.

I’m not a big fan of pickles. I remember going to Mcdonald’s as a child and always pulling out the pickles from my cheeseburger and giving them to my mom. Years later, I still repeat that process with my pickles from the corner bakery, happily giving them to Gary who would eat them off my plate.

I can no longer say that I do not like pickles, thanks to the pickle lady, Hattie Davis. This weekend we made a stop at the pickle factory and I can now say that I am happily pickled. If you love pickles order some today, you wont be sorry. If you don’t like pickles order some today, you will be converted. Trust me they are amazing.

Check out her website www.pickled.bigcartel.com. I highly recommend the Vampire slayers.

Two weeks ago, yesterday, I was lucky enough to stand next to one of my best friends at her wedding. Thankfully, it was a destination wedding and if you have never been to one, convince your next friend getting married that it is a must. We spent 5 days and 6 nights in a dream. It was such a relaxing, joyful, and much needed adventure to share with close friends and a beautiful wedding on top of all that. As I lay in bed, sipping my Xtabentun (Mayan liquour) mixed with my diet coke from the corner bakery, I look back at these pictures fondly, remembering the warm blue water, never ending drinks, unbelievably friendly people I met, and hands down one of the best weddings I have ever been to.

Orange you glad I’m just about finished? I am.

Well, the living room and dining room are finally wrapping up. It’s taken about a month or so to put the finishing touches, but I think I’m done. A little over a year ago, we painted the living room Tiffany blue and it never really grew on me.  Well, the blue period of our place is over and I am really inspired by our new colors. This time, we decided to go with a very warm, light gray on the living room walls and a chocolate brown on the dining room walls. Add in a lot of texture from our tweed sofa, microfiber chair, fabric choices, accents of oranges, silvers, blues and voila, here it is…

Let me know what you think!

Here is a link to the facebook album with more pics of the rooms.

Merry Christmas Ya’ll :)

An Astran Holiday get together wouldn’t be complete without some kind of friendly competition. It was my sister and niece against me and my nephew. Devin and I decided to go outside the gingerbread design box. We decided to do a gingerbread mini mall with tree lighting ceremony…natch. Hope everyone is having a Merry evening. I would show you my sisters but it literally crumbled under the pressure.

Where did the holiday go? Good thing I didn’t miss Festivus.

Didn’t have time to put up the old white fake tree this year. Looks like the aluminum pole is going up ya’ll. Time to finish the Festivus shopping in the malls which feels like the feats of strength. Happy Festivus!….for the rest of us.

Dear Santa,

All I really want for Christmas is Simple Times, Crafts for poor people by Amy Sedaris. Not in a fancy E book version either. I want the hard core, hard back, cold poor people version in honor of the book itself. With this table of contents, Crafting for Jesus, The joy of poverty and Fake Candle Making, how could this book steer me wrong?

I can’t wait!

“Happy Holidays is what terrorist say, so here is wishing you a Merry Christmas!”

xoxo
